CHRONEX-RD is a collaborative project of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa” in Iași, State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolaie Testimițeanu” in Chișinău and Odessa National Medical University that aims to promote the economic growth of the cross-border area Romania-Moldova-Ukraine by:
- Integrating and consolidating the regional academic capacities into a network of excellence for the management of chronic diseases; and
- Bridging the knowledge – practice gap in the management of chronic diseases through capacity building focused on multidisciplinarity and integration in research and development, education and medical practice
This project stems from an already existing partnership between the University of Medicine and Pharmacy“Grigore T. Popa” in Iași, the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolaie Testimițeanu” in Chișinău and Odessa National Medical University. This partnership will attract other academic, clinical and research institutions of the 3 countries in order to consolidate the East European Network of Excellence for Research and Development in Chronic Diseases (CHRONEX-RD). This project aims to formalize this partnership into a legal entity, which will coordinate the cross-border research efforts to achieve synergy, avoid redundancies, wastefulness and imprecisions inherent to small-scale, disparate research activities.
The three universities involved in the project have complementary roles in its implementation in the three countries. During the conceptual and planning stages of the project, the teams of the 3 core institutions of this network have periodically met and closely worked together to establish the design, specific roles and the action plan. The project proposal was the result of a collective action involving all the teams foreseen to participate in the implementation of the project. The activities of the project will take place in all 3 eligible regions of the participating countries and will involve all partner institutions. University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Gr. T. Popa” Iasi will assume the coordination of the network and the development of the research core, State University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Nicolae Testemitanu” in Chisinau and Odessa National Medical University will implement the training programmes for health professionals in the integrative management of chronic diseases. The core in Chisinau has the added advantage of a “native language hub” covering, in addition to English, the native languages (Romanian and Russian) of all target groups.
